My INSPIRATION
After teaching for over 25 years, Phyllis Shawn Jarvis has returned to her first love of painting. Phyllis is an abstract expressionist and contemporary artist based in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Mostly self taught, her creative side was nurtured by dedicated, incredible art teachers who recognized her talents at an early age and constantly encouraged her to explore and expand her love of drawing and painting.

Inspired by the works of Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler and Willem de Kooning, Phyllis creates paintings that are typically acrylic on canvas and consist of vivid colors, intuitively applied in layers with a sense of flow and transparency, a balance of energy and calm, a contrast between bold and spacious, resulting in abstract artwork that many describe as uplifting and inspirational, and yet also peaceful. With amazing color combinations that draw the eye to brilliance and the depths illuminated, her works celebrate texture and color in playful hues, and her hope is her paintings will evoke a sense of joy and tranquility.

Phyllis’ paintings are held in private collections throughout the country. She loves working with homeowners and designers creating paintings with a custom color scheme. Local in-home consultations and commissions are welcome.
